Description
Is this class for me?
If you are comfortable on a sewing machine and want to improve your sewing skills then this is a great place to start. This class is an introduction to dressmaking, using a basic Dress Pattern – an easy wear, easy fit. A simple blousy top (with no zips or fastenings) with either a short sleeve or a bracelet length sleeve, nipped in at the waist with a comfortable narrow elasticated waistband. A flared skirt glides over the hips, you can pick your perfect length and add pockets, if you wish.
What will this workshop cover?
– Taking your measurements and selecting the correct pattern size
– Understanding a dress pattern, and tracing off the size you require (this means you can make alterations and still have your original pattern intact)
– Pinning your pattern, transferring markings and tips to make cutting out a breeze
– Constructing your garment – first the top, adding sleeves if you wish and finishing the neckline with bias binding
– Finishing your seams (we’ll have overlockers set up for you to use) and the importance of pressing
– You’ll create your skirt and have the option to add pockets, with tips for getting the correct placement
– Finishing off your dress with a channel for the elasticated waist and finally hemming!
This class is your opportunity to really get to grips with dressmaking with the chance to ask questions, and build confidence.
